L'illustration

Splendid taste doesn't always pay dividends. In fact my favorite magazine ever "L'illustration" lasted from March 4, 1843 to end up in tears during the second world war. It had a brief second life as "France-Illustration"but went bankrupt in 1957. I managed to get my hands on a 1933 issue and one can only say that all the "modern" mags has plenty to learn from the vintage past...The quality of print, the brightness of colors, the use of gold , the choice of ads and the general excellence of the themes has no equals in the 21st century.

here are some pages but trust me you've got to touch the real thing to believe me..

All of which was not going to be possible without the existence of Edouard Charton. R.I.P. since 1890.
