paradigm shift. wanted

Fuori moda, sempre.

fashion week in milan is almost over and some news need to be digested. john galliano has been suspended from dior for his "terrible" behaviour while stefano pilati seems to wanna leave YSL. the well informed say his position will be replaced by hedi slimane so that his adoring fans will recover from anxiety.
gucci has launched the fiat 500 by lapo elkann and frida giannini while armani has suggested total black is the new black. donatella has focused on the "donne toste"while ms sozzani has relaunched her belief in the youth at vogue talents.
here are some random pics from a very lateral perspective..

the statues are amongst the crowd and viceversa

Coco Sumner, Sting's daughter performed twice in few days (nike stadium and gucci). she's ok. quite adorable but must be difficult to deal with The Police early masterpieces and their legacy.
silvian heach is an insignificant brand so they must have thought it was a good idea to please the public by showing an entire ass in thei AD .right in the middle of the bunga bunga momentum. nice ass-bad idea, that is.
also, terry richardson is becoming boring...

Mario Ybarra ROCKS for REAL

I must have met mario at least three times the last few days and I must say he is an absolute star of a guy and ..what a great artist! mexico is the place of my dreams and subcomandante marcos still one of my favourite heroes and anything related to that context makes me feel romantic and consciously excited.
Wilmington Good -a south californian spot becoming a"colony"of mexican immigrants-is the glocal venue for Ybarra statement about social struggle, pride and personal feelings. his own mother, the latino gangs, the workers and the remixed symbols of one the biggest US cargo ports are the subjects of mario's personal take of a contemporary paradox. smoke city is a blade runner-kind of beautiful interpretation of a post apocalyptic town where humans are not allowed and machinery took over. needless to say cardi and art at work are doing a good job. viva los angeles de mexico!

The indies are back

when I landed in milan in 2002 there was not yet an independent magazines "scene". surely there was not an alternative to flash art and I am 100% sure that there were no blogs or bloggers about arts as such. you could just comment on what was going on by writing a letter to mr politi from flash art.
then it came boiler, the first ever blog about contemporary arts and fashion with a f where you could leave comments and spread confusion if needed. confusion is sex, remember that.
then it came boiler on paper..
then everything else including uovo, mousse, caffelatte, the end, kaleidoscope, nero, slurp, apartamento, vice italy and very recently pizza and studio. Well, I think nowadays trees are even more important then yesterday. So unless you've got something to say which you cannot say on the web, avoid killling trees and breath too much oxygen. anyway you don't make a decent living from indie mags and if you need a portfolio, make it online. as i said, UNLESS you have something to say..which might be your case anyway.

ok then, fashion week is not yet over in milan but indie mags have had a couple of shots here.
pizza n.2 was launched at case d'arte with dubious performances, little pizzette and bearded girls while nero magazine presented a book of blondes by nico vascellari that also performed with industrial trashcore movers ninos do brasil. panic, coriandoli and pogo. really 90's with some twist. quite fun. here are some random pics of both events.

America is killing me, too.

The other night I was at massimo de carlo double bill exhibition PIOTR and ARE YOU GLAD TO BE IN AMERICA. I must say I was very deluded by Uklansky's only effort to please collectors with some decorative paintings while I found the collective show about american's icons far more sexy.
Indeed I truly love Gil Scott Heron poetry and even his latest albums, videos and remixes are so chic.

The exhibit is quite random but mr de carlo always seems to have his feet on the ground.

Alessandro in Asmara

I really think contemporary artists should treat the world as an organic ballgame. Alessandro Ceresoli spent two years exploring but not exploiting the history and the skills of Eritreans. he came up with an outstanding exhibition of drawings/paintings and locally produced glassworks.
Alessandro also produced a documentary about Asmara not so secret ancient and colonial past, and ...guess what ?..the election of Miss Eritrea where the models show proudness and intelligent ethics.
no signs of bunga bunga out there!
