The Age Of Punk-Fi. REloaded.

Once again antonio colombo fastforwards us into the retro-futuristic vision of ryan heshka, a canadian obsessed with parallel realities. just recently we learnt how technology can modify the human mind- we all are google minds- waking up checking iphone, ipad, ipod, i can't live without it. it's indeed a much welcomed discovery although there was a time in which humanity mistrusted the techno revolution up to the point it gave us nightmares of all kinds. these very images crossed our minds in every way.
I think and possibly ryan heshka thought to fall in love with all of the abuses of the twisted sci-fi adventurous escapism. He loved B-movies, punkzines, robots and pinups, the 50's and the 60's, betty page's fetish avantgarde, comics and futuristic design. indeed the question arising is the same that the most recent bowie is addressing "where are we now?". nowhere it seems, according to herska art. the foxy ladies are in control, their wigs and carpets are flying high defying the law of gravity while fashion police is arresting the rest of us. the monsters inside our imagination are not so scary after all.
Ryan Herska "Teenage Machine Age" opens this coming thursday at antonio colombo arte contemporanea in via solferino 44, Milano. see you there.
